Chia seeds are from a desert plant called salvia hispanica, grown in Mexico. These little guys have a big history dating all the way back to the Mayan and Aztec warriors, they would call these little seeds warrior food or runners food because of the energy you get when it’s dispersed through your body.

The word “chia” means “strength”, books and science show how these cultures used the tiny black seed as an energy booster, which makes sense since chia seeds are packed with omega-3 acids, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium.

Unlike flax seeds, the chia seed is an unprocessed, whole grain that your body can absorb quite easily. Where flax seeds can be eaten grounded up or whole, but their processed.

Chia seeds are a great way to control hunger while they enhance your diet with super nutrients. Not to mention, they are able to help you lose weight!

I’ve used chia seed seeds in my drinks and foods for a few years now and it’s the best way to take them daily. They are often sprinkled on cereals which is also a good way to eat them. I use them in my sauces, soups, vegetables, rice dishes, yogurt and a few baked goods.

I put them in my smoothies and flavored waters. They can also be mixed with water to make a gel.

Do you guys remember the chia pet? They are a gift item clay figure that sprouts grass like fur. Well, the seeds that grow that grass, are the seeds that being sold online today and in your health stores as a weight loss aid. 🙂

My Conclusion

So in my experience I’ve used chia seeds for weight loss and lots of other great reasons. I’m a healthier person for doing so, I think if you guys were to use these little black seeds everyday you would notice a huge difference in your energy levels also.

“Stop” drinking energy drinks they are not natural and do harm to your body. You can replace them with a lot healthier alternatives. 😉

  • I love chia seeds! We mix them in with our oats or smoothies pretty regularly. I am excited to try out this new recipe, I hadn’t thought of putting syrup in. What are your thoughts on honey instead? My husband is diabetic so we try to stay away from the “stronger” sugars in syrup.
